Really good piece as well. I found online gaming to be a bit more addictive, however, as you had other, real human beings relying on you, and they often could pressure you into keeping going. “One more raid” was a lot stronger of a motivation than “one more turn” for me, as I could just save the game on civ and come right back to it.
Furthermore, something like DDO (my biggest former addiction) has a very competitive nature; you want to be the best, to get an edge, to try to improve…and some people are just spending 16 hours on it, or more. Very hard.
I remember one time I spent an all nighter, then played all day, then ANOTHER all nighter, before hallucinating and passing out the next day. Not healthy. I’m glad I kicked that habit, but not before it ruined my university GPA.
